Richard ‘Pookie’ Woods

Richard Woods, was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. His father, a jazz musician in his own right, introduced music to his young son and he’s been hooked ever since. Those early listening sessions with his father provided the launching pad for what would become a creative musical journey as a musician (piano/keyboards) and beat maker over the last 20 years. As a producer, Richard has enjoyed considerable success, with placements in major film and television projects under his belt, but felt the need to expand on his musical expression was essential.

Over the course of the last three years he’s added the title of DJ to his ever expanding resume. You can catch him spinning at various upscale events in and around Los Angeles – his list of clients include some of Hollywood’s elite – San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Vegas and Miami are also frequent stops for this music maestro. He currently hosts residencies for SBE, Soho House (West Hollywood) and Tao Group (Los Angeles).

Though most of his sets are open format, his influences in Hip Hop, Jazz, Pop, House, Alternative, and Soul are hard to miss. When asked about his approach, Richard a.k.a. Pookie thoughtfully responds: “I’m always searching for something new and different…giving the listener something current, a taste of the past, and hopefully something to Shazam because they’ve never heard it before.”
